JANICE STANTON

 

Janice Stanton was born and raised in Kansas City.  She attended University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law, graduating with distinction and as a member of Bench & Robe (top 10%).  While in law school, Ms. Stanton was a member of the UMKC law review.  Ms. Stanton began her career as a law clerk for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri.  Following her clerkship, she practiced with one of the largest law firms in the Kansas City.  Ms. Stanton has been listed as “Best of the Bar” in Kansas City for several years.

 

Ms. Stanton has practiced law for over 30 years. She focuses her practice in the areas of financial restructuring and bankruptcy.  She represents creditors, debtors, and trustees in complex Chapter 11 proceedings to simple Chapter 7 cases.  Since bankruptcy is not always the necessary or the best path, Ms. Stanton looks for other options for her clients such as modification or restructuring of debt.

 

In 1997, she was appointed by the United States Department of Justice to serve as a Chapter 7 panel trustee for the Western District of Missouri.  She is appointed to hundreds of cases per year as Chapter 7 Trustee.  She also serves as a Chapter 11 trustee.  When she serves as a Chapter 11 trustee, she oversees the operation or liquidation of the debtor’s business.  A Chapter 11 Trustee is appointed by the Court in cases where the debtor has acted fraudulently, dishonestly or there has been gross mismanagement.    

 

She is an active member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Kanas City Metropolitan Bar Association, National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, and the Kansas City Bankruptcy Bar.  She has served on the local rules committee for the Western District of Missouri, the Ad Hoc Committee for the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute and is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy related topics.  Ms. Stanton also has acted as Adjunct Professor of the University of Kansas City School of Law and Rockhurst University.  Ms. Stanton holds an AV Peer Review rating from Martindale Hubble.

 

Ms. Stanton is licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and to practice in the federal districts of the Western District of Missouri and the District of Kansas.
